Producer KlayBlaq (King Made Music) Rises Above The Competition

20131107-IMG_9311

Give us some background info as to who you are.

Good afternoon.  Harlan C Black (KlayBlaq) is the name.  Been into music ever since I heard “Freaks come out at Night” by Whodini.  Picked up a pen and a pad that very moment.  As you can see, I’ve been doing this since folks were bustin back spins on cardboard boxes.  Went through the same ups and downs as any other artist, no need for explanations there, with key points being: Two independently released CDs (small profit), signed to an independent record label in Cleveland back in the day (NorthStar Records), Opened up for Ludicris (nice crowd response I must say), sold a few beats in Japan, a single and video with ScottyATL that will be releasing this June, tentative placement with Juanito (Treated Crew Chicago) sent him the track outs already and he stated that he’s using the beats for sure, I talk to him often over the horn. Also have a few tracks placed with an up and coming artist out of Cleveland (Stone the Butcha).

What is your USP? (Unique Selling Proposition) and what sets you apart from other producers?

I honestly think my selling position is a combination of both personality and music.  If I get in a room with you, chances are you’ll want to work with me again. I’ve noticed this over the years. Beats aint half bad either.

What single or project are you currently pushing?

As stated earlier, a single with ScottyATL will be released soon.

What is your signature sound?

I call it PlayBoy Cool. Smooth tracks with a club/trap beat thrown in for good measure every now and then.

What equipment/software do you use?

Currently using the most recent version of Reasons and Protools combined with the IMac and an MAudio Keystation 88 keyes.

Which producers have inspired you?

Just Blaze is nice.  Justic League is extremely talented.

What is the philosophy by which you live by?

In the past, it was what it was, in the present it is what it is, and in the future its gonna be what its gonna be, with a bit of influence from me if I can get my hands in the pot.

What is your opinion of the current state of the music industry?

Industry is cool to me.  Some say hip hop is dead or the present music is trash (I hear that a lot) I totally disagree.  I do think its VERY over saturated though, and there needs to be some type of filter to block some of this product to ensure only the coldest get in. I also don’t really like the “pump out a shitload” of free music. Ya better make these folks pay how they weigh got dammit.  Thats why the economy is jacked up because everybody cheapskates. Me personally, I usually avoid downloading free music, I purchase everything. Folks put too much money and time into it to give it away.  If something I like isn’t available on iTunes, thats the only time I’m forced to go to Datpiff, etc.

Are there any artists that you would like to work with in the future?

The music I create is geared more towards a chill atmosphere.  I’ve zeroed in on Stalley, Devin the Dude, and Currensy, now all they need to do is answer their friggin emails lmao!!!  I just made one that I KNOW for a fact Stalley could burn up.

What producer would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Justice League.  Not necessarily collab with em, but watch them work and learn a thing or two.

What is your favorite movie and favorite book?

Favorite movie has to be “5 Deadly Venoms” Yea, I have about 80 old school Kung Fu Flicks in my CD case.  Hard to say on the books, I’m an avid reader. Lets go with Malcolm X.

What are some major misconceptions that you think people have of you?

That I’m a cheapskate lmao!!

What is your website?

KingMadeMusic.com for the win in 2014!!!

Any final words for the people.

Health and Success to you all!!
