Profile Information

About Me:
Christopher Ross, aka “Legrand”, ushers originality back into the hip- hop community as well as his unique sense of diverse cultures, and his passion to keep audiences captivated. Growing up, his parents Herman and Shirley, along with his siblings, Herman Jr, Michelle and Marc, always surrounded Legrand with love as he began to develop a love for hip hop. “I had been exposed to a lot of great music through my older siblings, but my most pleasant memories of childhood were of hip hop: b-boy dance crews, and as a young deejay supplying the music for other rappers”, he states with conviction. “A childhood friend, William White would always encourage me to freestyle in ciphers with him and others and that developed my confidence” states the artist. Thankfully for the hip hop world, this encouragement has paid off. This amazing
lyricist has opened for Black Moon, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes and other respected hip hop artists and has toured extensively overseas.
Legrand garnered the moniker- “the professional” early on in life. This Philadelphia native is fluent in several languages, (and he rhymes in all of them), Legrand has travelled many parts of the world, thus cultivating his latest project, “The Professional”. This album is a foundation of hip hop that experiments with traces of world music, and still retains the “fun” and party element. "The Professional", started out as a fusion of hip hop and world music, but then ultimately I made some songs that were fun to record and added them to the album.” he adamantly states. He credits his musical peers and influences such as fellow “2-5” natives, Kurupt and El-Drex because of their lyrical skill and the hometown vibe they bring to their respective artistic offerings. He also vibes with the likes of Common, Slum Village and the often controversial Kanye West for their commitment to subject matter and the versatility in their styles, which can similarly be found on his current project, “The Professional”. He also acknowledges that his success comes from the ultimate spiritual mentor- ”Well there is no doubt that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and because of my relationship with Him it influences what I rhyme about or speak about, and most importantly how I conduct myself as an emcee!”, he joyfully states. Legrand is not only “The Professional” but he is also a loving husband and father who proudly states his love for his wife and children and how their faith in him and their artistic inclinations, play a major role in who he is as an artist.
Like many great men before him, he wants to be remembered for his body of work, for having done great music, for allowing God to use him and to continue to be a great father and husband. “As someone who made a sincere contribution to the hip hop community and stayed "true" to hip hop; I want my children to understand the positive influence that hip hop has contributed to society and to be proud of that culture”, states Legrand. Spoken like the true professional that he embodies.
