- My name is Justin Baker and I am a 24-year-old Canadian rapper known as Maniacal ‘J, previously Justintime. I was born in Toronto and moved around between British Columbia before settling in B.C. for good a year ago. I began freestyling to beats about five years ago as a way to release the tension I had inside. Tupac beats were my beats of choice, because he uses the harder style of beats that I am drawn to and go well with my voice. I freestyled whenever I could and got better at spitting beats and coming up with new lyrics. Saving the money I made from whichever job I was working, I purchased a piano, mic and speakers and set up my own studio in my room. About two years ago, I began making my own beats on my Korg Triton LE piano and recording my own lyrics. Since then, I have recorded 40 original songs, sometimes sampling beats I found on the internet, but mostly making my own using Reason on my PC. All of these were done from my room in whatever free time I had. I have a loyal following from everyone who hears my CD. I would like to be signed by a major label and get into a studio to record my songs professionally. In time, I would like to produce people and sign rappers to my own label.
